The klingon word for "socks" is {paSlogh}. Is this word to be treated as being grammatically singular, and is it possible to say "one sock" in klingon ? As far as I know, it is unknown if a singular form exists. qunnoq

For the translation of the intro of a famous German children TV show I have asked Marc Okrand how I'd best name their main characters which are a mouse and an elephant. Okrand talked to Maltz and replied with the following. It's not really a new word, but at least some canon spelling of a terran animal. --------------------------------------- Lieven — I think {Qa'Hom} is okay for "mouse." And Maltz wasn't aware of any native Klingon elephant-like animal. So go with a Klingon version of Federation Standard. Hello again, Here are some more words that were asked by several people: ---- For the archive: this is printed in qepHom 2017, page 8. ---- {mI'wI' much} n. "dance show", a show consisting of people dancing. It can be used to translate "cabaret" if the cabaret show consists entirely or nearly entirely of dancing, but that's a special and infrequent situation. {much Qe'} n. "cabaret", means the location, such as a nightclub or restaurant where there's food/drink along with a show. {Qe' much} n. "cabaret" means the show performed in such a place. {Huj} is "strange" as in unfamiliar {jum} is "odd" as in peculiar, unexpected, fishy {taQ} is "weird" as in bizarre, unnatural, maybe creepy An "odd number" is {mI' mob} An "even number" is {mI' mobHa'} In appropriate contexts, the {mI'} could be left out. {tem} v. "deny" means "contradict, disavow, claim as false" and the like. It does not mean "refuse, reject, turn down, don't permit" In TKD, {DenIb} and {DenIbya'} are both glossed "Denebia." But that's an error. The planet name in English is Deneb, not Denebia. But this coming-and-going -ya' thing crept its way into the English side of the dictionary somehow. HIvqa' veqlargh! Others were used in Andrew Miller's Art presentation in a Museum of Pittsburgh, which happened on the same weekend. Today I am trying to grasp the difference between {net + verb} and {'e' + verb-lu'} The way I understand it is, for example with "Sov" net Sov = it is common knowledge that 'e' Sovlu' = someone (indefinite) knows that Thus: qama'pu' DIHoHbe' net Sov = It is common knowledge that we don't kill prisoners qama'pu' DIHoHbe' 'e' Sovlu' = It is known / someone knows that we don't kill prisoners Similarly with chaw' : qama'pu' DIHoH net chaw'be' = we are not allowed to kill prisoners qama'pu' DIHoH 'e' chaw'lu'be' = someone does not allow us to kill prisoners Am I getting it right ? {'e' -lu'} is not a permissible construction, unless the {-lu'} is on the verb {'aq}.
