If you wanted to say "you've betrayed me, and you expect me to behave as if nothing happened ?", how would you say it ? The best option I can think of, is perhaps something like {chomaghta'; 'e' vIlIj, 'e' DapIH, jIvangtaHvIS ?} But I can't say, that I like stringing together two {'e'}s. In english we say "I lost my dignity". But how do we say it in klingon ? If we write {nurwIj vIchIlpu'}, it sounds like "I left my dignity somewhere but I don't remember where". ~ mayqel *I love maltz* qunen'oS

A lot of Huch; Is it singular or plural ?

Recently, I was wondering whether the plural of {Huch} is to be treated as singular or plural. Do we say {Huch law' wIghaj}, or {Huch law' DIghaj} ? We have the Ca'NoN sentence: {Quj wa'DIch monopoly Huch nav qa' tlhIngan QaS} klingon forces replace original monopoly bills Reading this at first, I thought that since the "klingon forces" is plural, however we don't see a {lu-} on the {qa'}, then this means, that the {Huch nav} is plural. But then I realized that perhaps only the {nav} is the plural word of this noun-noun construction. So we don't know (or at least *I* don't know) if the {Huch} here is to be meant as singular of plural. And, as americans say, I'm back to square one.. So, to return to the original question, does someone know if we say {Huch law' wIghaj}, or {Huch law' DIghaj} ? ~ mayqel *I love maltz* qunen'oS

Expressing "one and a half year ago"

Recently, the need came up to express "one and a half year ago". Perhaps, the "safest" way to go, would be {wa'maH chorgh wen} "18 months ago". But I'm wondering whether it would be acceptable as well to say, {wa' wa' bID je ben} for "one and a half year ago", or maybe even {wa' vI' vagh ben} for "1.5 years ago". ~ mayqel *I love maltz* qunen'oS

Can we use {chabal} on its own ?

We have the word {chabal}, which so far the only way I've seen it used, is in the context of {chabal tetlh} i.e. "list of something desired". But could we use it on its own ? For example if I write: {chabalmeylIjmo' bIbech} "because of the things you desire you suffer" Would it be correct ? Would it make sense ? ~ mayqel *I love maltz* qunen'oS

Discord ghogh qepHom

Going through the mailing list archives, I see several references to "the Discord server", but no link to the actual server and no explanation. So maybe some people who might otherwise participate just don't know what it is or are put off by the idea of learning new software or whatever and it might be helpful to describe it. Discord was originally a voice/text chat app for gamers, so people could communicate in multiplayer online games. In the same way that MUDs/MUSHes (if you know what those are) were often repurposed to be just virtual places people could meet to discuss various subjects, Discord has also developed communities of people who use it for purposes other than gaming. The KLI MUSH has basically been replaced by the KLI Discord. The client software is available for Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, and Android, and you can also connect online using a browser. There's a fairly active community of Klingon speakers on Discord. You can find your way there through this KLI page: https://www.kli.org/members-only/discord-chat-server/ Discord has very good VoIP capabilities, and some of us have been having semi-regular {ghogh qepHommey}. There's supposed to be a regular session on Saturdays (afternoon in the Americas, evening Europe), though you could just voice chat with someone if they're available. I wanted to introduce Discord to more people because people often complain that they can't make it to a physical {qep'a'}/{qepHom} due to expense/distance/time/etc., whereas Discord doesn't cost anything. Also, while one can learn using Duolingo or Memrise, or by writing stories or discussing grammar on this mailing list or Facebook, there's something to having a real-time voice conversation in Klingon which exercises skills which can't be developed by other means. (It was on a Discord voice chat that I stumbled on to my "almost a year ago" problem.) -- De'vID
