Is there any canon source for the correct verb to use when reciting a ghuQ? I can see very valid arguments for both bom and jatlh. I was wondering if there was a specific source that had a verb that could give insight. Personally, I lean towards bom. Since Klingon used qonwI’ for both a music composer and a ghuQ composer, I don’t see why “singing” in Klingon culture has to involve intoned words (actually, it’s a strange line to talk about in academic circles because the same question can be asked in English in many modern musical contexts…). —jevreH Sent from my iPhone

An important clarification: The obvious mismatch at times, between the klingon and the english, is because I never aim to translate word-for-word between the two languages; I try to translate in klingon, the actual meaning of the english sentence. Multiple question words / markers in a sentence

I don’t remember the exact sentence, but some time ago somebody said something of the form “SoHvaD jatlh'a' 'Iv?”, which at first I thought was a mistake, until it was explained as a clarifying question on top of another question. The first question would have been something of the form “jIHvaD Dajatlh'a'?”, with the follow up question of “SoHvaD jatlh'a' 'Iv?” basically asking who the first question was being asked to. Within this context, this made sense, despite apparently being ungrammatical at first glance. This form came up in a separate conversation recently, in a sentence that I believe was “HIq 'ar Datlhutlh'a'?” In this instance the -'a' did turn out to be an error, but I was able to concoct a contrived scenario where the question might make sense, as a clarifying follow up question to something like “cha' tlho'ren muqbogh HIq bal naQ vItlhutlh'a'?” Anyway, more generally, does it make sense to have questions with more than one question word, like it does in English? Either something like the examples above, where a verb carries an interrogative marker in addition to a question word being present, or like one of the examples below: ghorgh mej 'Iv? (perhaps, like the previous examples, as a follow up question to something like “ghorgh mej?”) nuq legh 'Iv? (perhaps asking for two separate pieces of information at once)

nuqDaq HolQeDmey bopol?

As a KLI member, it seems I have access to digital copies of HolQeD, but only volume 14 seems to be available. Physical copies are available for purchase, but only for certain issues, mostly newer ones. Is there any plan to make the rest of the HolQeD back catalog available (either for free to members or for purchase), preferably in digital format? I’d prefer digital since I don’t relish the thought of dedicating space to storing 14 years of HolQeDmey that I won’t be looking at all that often, and I’d like to be able to search them.

About colors

I have been reading the KGT section about visual arts. I have some doubts, that probably many of you can clarify. The KGT explicitly says there is no word for color as such. But how can I ask what color is something? The nguv verb can be used, but it is not clear to me if it includes naturally occurring colors, as the definition is "is dyed, is tinted, is stained". What about the natural color of an object? Is chay' nguv tera' naran? still an option? Can I use to describe the color of something? The notes says it is rarely used, but would something like this work? DaHjaj Doqqu' nguv tlhom! Regarding nguvmoH: the direct object is the thing being colored, can I use the color as an indirect object? Can it be used for natural processes? That is, is this a valid construct? Doqvad chal nguvmoH jajlo'. Well, I suppose I could use simply: chal DoqmoH jajlo'. Still, it would be nice if someone could confirm the meaning of an indirect object with nguv. An odd thing for me was that SuDqu' means green; I expected to be a color at the opposite end of the spectrum, and to indicate blue. Anyway, that made me think of how to say yellow and orange instead; Would Doq dochvam, 'ach tlhoS SuD work for orange/orange yellow or SuD, 'ach tlhoS Doq for yellow, maybe close to orange? The KGT indicates Sud 'ej wov for yellow, but it looks ambiguous... Could't it indicate light blue or light green as well? Finally... grays. I have seen qIj 'ej wov to indicate gray. I suppose that works.
