where the {'e'} of a sao refers

There is something I've been wondering for quite some time. A sao has the form {sentence 'e' verb}, with the {'e'} referring to the {sentence}. If we write {vIghro' vIje' 'e' Dalegh}, then this means "you saw that I fed the cat". But what happens, when before the {'e'} we have two joined sentences ? Suppose we write {vIghro' vIje' 'ej chab wIvut 'e' Dalegh}. Where does the {'e'} refer now ? Does it refer to the entire {vIghro' vIje' 'ej chab wIvut}, or does it only refer to the {chab wIvut} ? Does the {vIghro' vIje' 'ej chab wIvut 'e' Dalegh} mean: "I fed the cat, and you saw that we baked the pie", or does it mean "You saw that I fed the cat and that we baked the pie" ? who translated the Klingon for "The Left Hand of Destiny"?

The word {retlaw} reminded me of the Emperor Reclaw, so I wanted to look up if the name had ever been printed in the original Klingon. I discovered that the novel "The Left Hand of Destiny" contains the following text: SuvwI''a' ghaH reQlaw'e' (For Reclaw was a mighty warrior,) qu' qabDaj; jev 'e' rur (Terrible as thunder,) nom vIHchu'; Hov tIH rur (Swift as starlight,) jupDajvaD yoHbej ghaH (Stalwart to his friends) jaghDajvaD Heghna' ghaH (And DEATH to his enemies...) Bing Translator pIqaD support...

Before anybody scolds me for using Bing Translator, I was only using it as a convenient way to convert text into Unicode pIqaD on computers/devices that didn’t already have an appropriate pIqaD input method installed. Anyway, it seems I can’t do that anymore, since it looks like Bing Translator underwent a redesign recently (within the past few weeks it seems), and now only supports “Klingon” and not “Klingon (pIqaD)”. wejpuH. I whipped up a three-way transliterator as a replacement. It has the added benefit of being a self-contained HTML file, so you can keep a copy on your computer and use it without network access. It should be fairly OS/browser agnostic, but let me know if you run into any problems. I’ll probably style it (including adding a web font so you don’t have to have a pIqaD font installed) later. For the translation of the intro of a famous German children TV show I have asked Marc Okrand how I'd best name their main characters which are a mouse and an elephant. Okrand talked to Maltz and replied with the following. It's not really a new word, but at least some canon spelling of a terran animal. --------------------------------------- Lieven — I think {Qa'Hom} is okay for "mouse." And Maltz wasn't aware of any native Klingon elephant-like animal. So go with a Klingon version of Federation Standard. For the Klingon subtitles in episode 114, Marc Okrand could get Maltz to talk again, and revealed the following words. All of the following are direct quotes of Okrand: {QIl} v. "be desperate", as when there's no way out, they have nothing to lose. This includes ideas like "last-ditch, do-or-die, hopeless, doomed." {maleSya'} n. Malaysia Think of {rang} as "be responsible for." As I mentioned, it takes an object ({ngoy'} does not). {rang} cannot be used as an adjective. ------- Using {qaw} "remember" seems to work in your example of {Dochmey qawbogh} "things he remembers/remembered." But I agree — it's a little awkward. And what one remembers should probably be described as something better or descriptive than simply "things." We've got {qawHaq} "memory banks." Maltz didn't know what {Haq} in this word was. (He said it has nothing to do with surgery — that's just a coincidence.) But {qaw}, he said, is a perfectly fine noun meaning "memory" in the sense of the ability to remember or the power of recall. It does not refer to specific memories or recollections. That's a different word: {wov'on}. It's more common to hear {wov'on qaw} "he/she remembers a memory" than {wov'on ghaj} "he/she has a memory," though the colloquial (English) translation of the former would be "he/she has a memory." Someone who remembers a lot of stuff or who can easily remember things (like dates or lines of a play) may be said to have a {qaw pov} "excellent memory." ------- Regarding the verb "compare", I (Lieven) asked whether this would work: {A-mey patlhmoH C} "C sorts his A" (for instance, his socks) Okrand said: ------- In general, yes. I suppose you could say this if A means "socks," but that would imply that the person doing the sorting likes or values some socks more than some others. ------- (so it wouldn't be used to clean your room.
