who translated the Klingon for "The Left Hand of Destiny"?
The word {retlaw} reminded me of the Emperor Reclaw, so I wanted to look up if the name had ever been printed in the original Klingon. I discovered that the novel "The Left Hand of Destiny" contains the following text: SuvwI''a' ghaH reQlaw'e' (For Reclaw was a mighty warrior,) qu' qabDaj; jev 'e' rur (Terrible as thunder,) nom vIHchu'; Hov tIH rur (Swift as starlight,) jupDajvaD yoHbej ghaH (Stalwart to his friends) jaghDajvaD Heghna' ghaH (And DEATH to his enemies...) Source: https://goo.gl/eGZ5M9 [link to original text on Google Play Books] http://memory-beta.wikia.com/wiki/Reclaw The original text apparently has a few typos, which are fixed in the copy on Memory Beta. In any case, this is reasonably good Klingon. Any idea who was responsible for this? -- De'vID
In the acknowledgments, Jeffrey Lang mentions: "Special thanks to the good folks at the Klingon Language Institute - in particular, Lawrence M. Schoen, Alan Anderson, Roger Cheesbro, and Lieven Litaer - for their help" So, it was likely one (or all?) of them, but you never know with special thanks. //loghaD ________________________________ From: tlhIngan-Hol <tlhingan-hol-bounces@lists.kli.org> on behalf of De'vID <de.vid.jonpin@gmail.com> Sent: Friday, February 9, 2018 00:26 To: tlhIngan-Hol Subject: [tlhIngan Hol] who translated the Klingon for "The Left Hand of Destiny"? Maltz had yet to reveal {tamghay} at the time or else "starlight" might have been translated differently. Doug On Feb 8, 2018 6:45 PM, "Felix Malmenbeck" <felixm@kth.se> wrote:

That's good to know. On one side, I really have NO memory at all on that, but on the other hand, when I saaw retlaw I thought like "that reminds me of reclaw, but what the hell is a reclaw?" *hahahaha* -- Lieven L.
