There is something I want to ask, but i don't know how to describe it.. So, lets approach this, as such : First of all, forget the klingon SAO. For this post we will forget that it exists. So, let me ask a trick question : Do you accept exclamations with no overt subject ? For example : teH ! wa'Hu' Ha'DIbaH vISopta'. it is true ! yesterday I ate an animal. Now, that you accepted the "exclamations with no overt subject", the second question comes : Could I write the previous sentence as such ? teH, wa'Hu' Ha'DIbaH vISopta'. it is true, yesterday I ate an animal. Do you accept this sentence ? If yes, then allow me to observe, that we no longer have an "exclamation with no overt subject" ; instead we have the sentence {teH} "it is true", which is followed by another sentence {wa'Hu' Ha'DIbaH vISopta'} "yesterday I ate an animal". And one could analyze this sentence as "what is true ?" "It is true that yesterday I ate an animal" So, if we accept the previous analysis, we finally come to the point of this mail : Consider this sentence : HarDI' chaH mob chaH when they believe they are alone If someone showed me this a few days ago, I would only translate it as "when their believing takes place, they are alone". But can I use this sentence in order to express the meaning too "when they believe (that) they are alone" ? Why is the {mob chaH} necessary to be considered as the outcome of the {HarDI' chaH} ? Why couldn't someone analyze this sentence as : "as soon as they believe what ?" "(that) they are alone" mop Hurgh qunnoq

When you're stuck at a word

Regardless whether you're translating your thoughts in klingon, or any kind of text, sooner or later you'll find yourself stuck at a word, you just can't find a way to express. When that happens, usually two things do the trick : 1. Take a break, close your eyes and try to *feel* that word. Almost always, when you *feel* that word, a way will appear in order to put it in klingon too. It took me a long time, to realize that "we express meanings in klingon" ; we don't just convert other languages' words in klingon words. 2. Find a thesaurus page on google, and search on that site for synonyms. 3. Most important : Even if klingon has a word, which translates exactly your foreign word into it, ask yourself : Even if you do use that word, is the outcome just as cool in klingon as it is in your mind's original sentence ? A while ago, I wanted to find a way to express in klingon : "you're the thorn at Light's side" ; of course, there is no klingon word for "thorn'. So, following steps 1 and 2, I found the solution : {wovlI'ghach joQmeyvaD wIl SoHtaH}. And it passes the test of the third point too.. mop Hurgh qunnoq

Can I use verb type 9 suffix {-wI'}, after other suffixes ?

So far, I considered verb type 9 suffix {-wI'), as a suffix, one could use on a verb, which verb didn't have a preceding suffix. And I really don't know why I had that impression. But recently, at another thread, I saw someone using the verb type 9 suffix {-wI'}, on a verb which had another type of verb suffix, preceding the {-wI'}. So, I want to ask ; is this allowed ? Can I place the verb type 9 suffix, on a verb which has another verb suffix, preceding ? Of course the question would be : "why would you want to ?". Right now I can't think of a reason. {'er'In} {megh'an} and {qa'rI'}

If {'er'In} is used for one end, then {megh'an} is used for the other. Do we have any similar analogy for the {qa'rI'} ? And before you say {DIn}, here is the problem ; If I use {qa'rI'} to describe the end of a corridor or tunnel, then I could use {DIn} to describe the other end. But if I use {qa'rI'}, to describe the end of something which is not enclosed (road, bridge, long field etc), then what do I use for the other end ? {DIn} is only to be used for enclosed spaces. If anyone would like to look into it, then HolQeD 12.2 Jun. 2003, (which-of-course-I-don't-have-because-if-I-did-I-wouldn't-be-asking) could provide some insight on the matter.. mop Hurgh qunnoq klingon is a language of controlled fury
