The noun {'op} is given as "some, an unknown or unspecified quantity". I just realized that there's no rule against using the {'op} with {puS}/{law'}, thus specifying whether this "unknown quantity is of few or of many". 'op Duj puS vIjem I detect an amount of ships which is of an unknown quantity (as far as their exact number is concerned), but I sense that they're few The question now would be, whether we could apply directly the {law'}/{puS} to the {'op}; but I think that although there's no rule against it, it would sound rather strange to say {'op puS Duj} since that could sound like "ships of few/several unspecified quantities". On the other hand though, perhaps we *could* say {'op vItlh} for "a high/great unspecified quantity". However, the question then would be what noun we could place the {'op vItlh} on; because the nouns that play well with {vItlh} i.e. the nouns that are "measurable or quantifiable but not necessary countable" don't sound that good with {'op}: {'op Do} a speed of unspecified quantity (this sounds strange to me) {'op vItlh Do} a speed of high/great unspecified quantity (this sounds equally strange to me) On the third hand though, perhaps we *could* use the {'op vItlh} "a high/great unspecified quantity" with nouns which are countable: {'op Duj} some ships (sounds fine to me) {'op vItlh Duj} ships of high/great unspecified quantity (sounds equally fine to me) Go figure. ~ Dana'an

With regard (or is it "with regards"?) to the first part of the question, I think the answer is pretty straightforward. Since we have {wovmoHbogh jan} for "light (device)" and we also have {chu'} "engage, activate (a device)", then "turn on the lights"/"turn off the lights", obviously needs to be {wovmoHbogh jan yIchu'}/{wovmoHbogh jan yIchu'Ha'}. And I don't think there would be any problem with extending this use of the verb {chu'} "engage, activate (a device)" for the nouns {wovmoHwI'} "light (lamp)"/{wovmoHwI' moQ} "light bulb" too. On the other hand though, I *do* wonder about how we would describe when we would flip the switch but the device wouldn't work because someone had cut the electricity (I don't know how you say it in english..). Would it be sufficient to say {'ul tu'lu'be'}/{pagh 'ul tu'lu'}? Could we say {'ul chu'Ha'lu'pu'}? Obviously electricity isn't a device which can be "engaged, activated" and "disengaged, deactivated", on the other hand though isn't it something which *can be* "engaged, activated" and "disengaged, deactivated"? ~ Dana'an "invoked or not invoked, the gods are there" (ancient spartan saying)

You go to the sink to drink water. How would you say in klingon "turn on the faucet"/"turn off the faucet"? Would {bIQ SeHjan yIchu'}/{bIQ SeHjan yIchu'Ha'} be fine? And suppose that for some reason you turn on the faucet and no water comes out. Perhaps you didn't pay the bill, perhaps some pipe broke down the road.. How would you say "the water is cut"? (I don't know how you say it in english, but that's how we say it in greek). ~ Dana'an
