On the Facebook group, I found out about a typo that is still around on some pages. I checked my notes and talked to Okrand to confirm that the following version is correct: {Qoy'} "spill" "It's used when the liquid slops over or out of whatever container it was in. In Hamlet, Act II, scene 2, in a letter to Ophelia, Hamlet finished his words with 'O dear Ophelia, I am ill at these numbers, I have not art to reckon my groans: but that I love thee best, O most best, believe it. Adieu. 'Thine evermore, most dear lady, whilst this machine is to him, HAMLET.' The Klingon version ends with reH banglI', porghDaj yInmoHtaHvIS neH QuQDaj, HAMLET'e'. translating "machine" as {QuQ}, so I just wondered... {QuQ} is defined in TKD as "engine", so is {jonta'}, and we also have {jo'} and {mIqta'}, both translated as "machinery". I am not an expert for Shakespeare, and maybe I do not understand this line correctly, but what was the reason for this word choice? And what would you have chosen here? -- Lieven L. using {-lu'} in conjunction with {-ghach}

The way I understand {-ghach}, it works as follows: {mughchu'ghach} perfect translation {mughqangghach} willingness to translate {mughvIpghach} the condition of fearing to translate {Hurghchu'ghach} perfect darkness {tujtaHghach} the condition of being continuously hot The way I understand it, adding {-ghach} to a transitive verb, expresses an action (translation, discommendation, etc). And adding {-ghach} to an intransitive verb, expresses a condition (e.g. darkness, happiness, etc). And always, the suffix used influences the final meaning.. However, recently I saw somewhere online, someone having written the word {vanglu'ghach}, which I can't understand. What could {vanglu'ghach} mean ? Could it mean "an unspecified action" ? Does using the suffix {-lu'} in conjunction with {-ghach} produce a word, which actually makes sense ? ~ mayqel qunen'oS

On the other hand, re-thinking the {-lu'wI'} matter, I started to wonder.. vIghro' legh vay' someone sees the cat vIghro' leghlu' someone unspecified sees the cat leghwI' someone who sees So, why couldn't the {leghlu'wI'} mean "someone unspecified who sees" ? ~ mayqel qunen'oS

can we place type-5 noun suffixes on the {'e'} of a sao ?

The words {jIH}, {SoH}, {ghaH}, etc, are pronouns, and they *can* take type-5 noun suffixes. For example, we can say: chaHmo', vIghro' tIQ wISampu' because of them we found the ancient cat Moving on.. The {'e'} of a sao, is a pronoun too. So, we *can* place on it too type-5 noun suffixes, thus producing constructions like: {verengan 'opuHwI' ghaH SoSlI''e'; not 'e'mo' Qang Damoj} Your mother is a ferengi prostitute; because of that you will never become a chancellor. using {Hoch} after a noun with an adjective

I've been wondering lately, with regards to using {Hoch} after a noun with an adjective, and more specifically its' position with regards to the adjective. Assume we want to say "all of the big pie". There are two options: {chab tIn Hoch} {chab Hoch tIn} Of the two, my preference would be the first one, since -the way I understand it- it goes like: "There is a big pie, and we consider all of it". While the second, feels like it means: "There is a pie, we consider all of it, and that all, is big". The only thing which troubles me, is whether it's permissible to actually place {Hoch} after an adjective. Would anyone like to share any thoughts on this matter ? ~ mayqel qunen'oS
