Difference between "all X" and "all of X"

There's something I don't understand, which perhaps has to do with the fact that english is not my native language. What's the difference between "all X" and "all of X" ? Suppose I say {vIghro' Hoch mutmey}, which means "all species of the cat". And now suppose I say {vIghro' mutmey Hoch}. which means "all of the species of the cat". Is there a difference in meaning between these two ? And if yes what ? Because, I can't *feel* anything different between them. ~ m. qunen'oS

Over the past few years, for the qep'a', we have collected a wish list of words that we give to Dr. Okrand so that he can ask Maltz for them. In the past this has been a semi-informal process with suggestions being collected on this list, on Facebook, on Discord, etc compiled together, and then voted on by KLI members and guests. This year, thanks to the amazing work by De'nIl (Daniel Dadap), we are launching a web based chabal tetlh that runs year round. On the chabal tetlh web page KLI members and guests can suggest new words, and vote on each others suggestions. Then, when the qep'a' comes around, we will simply pull the top words from the list. DaH yISuch 'ej mu'mey tIchup: https://www.kli.org/chabal/ The number of words that can be suggested and the number of votes that can be cast per word is based on membership level within the KLI. Guests can suggest 2 words, while members can suggest 10, 15, or 20 depending on the length of their membership. Guests can cast 1 vote per word, normal members can cast 2 votes, while lifetime members can cast 3 votes for their continued support (all of these amounts are subject to change based on feedback). Words that are down voted far enough become blacklisted, and that suggestion will be returned. We also plan to return suggestions when a word is chosen. Since this system is new, there may be some bugs. We are also planning to add more features going forward. Hi there, intended as an April fools joke which is not a joke (so somehow a Schrödinger's joke?), the world's largest model railway in Germany has published their promotional video in Klingon. "Euro" [European currency] The most interesting word certainly is {nu'}. To show the difference: a {targhHom} is just a small targ, but a {targh nu'} can only refer to a "toy targ". Okrand's words: ------ There's no noun Maltz is aware of like "miniature" (small model or version of something). {machqu'} is fine, but if you want to avoid it, you could use the verb {nu'} which means something like "be particularly small" and is often used of things that are smaller than the usual or expected size. Is the given meaning definite ?

There are some klingon words, which's given english definitions don't match the direct translation of the klingon word. Is it imperative, that when using such words, we need to be thinking of the given english definition, or can we use the same klingon word to express what the klingon word actually means ? To illustrate my obscure point, I will use the verb Say'qu'moH and an ancient cat. So, lets say we just spent a fortune to acquire an ancient cat, and the first thing we do is to make it very clean.. {vIghro' tIQ wIje'ta'bogh wISay'qu'moH} we make the ancient cat which we have bought very clean Right ? But the problem is, that Say'qu'moH has been given as "to sterilize". So, although the klingon says "we make the cat very clean", the Ca'NoN translation says "we sterilize the cat". And because I can *feel* someone ready to say that "to sterilize" is to "make something very clean", I will rush to say YOU ARE WRONG !!! To sterilize means to make something germ-free. Making something very clean, means making it very clean.. To be sterile is to be very clean, to be very clean isn't to be sterile. So, the question is: Can we use Say'qu'moH to mean what it actually means i.e. "to make something very clean", or since it has been given as "to sterilize", it can only mean "sterilize" ? ~ changan qIj
