I just discovered that messages sent to " tlhingan-hol(a)stodi.digitalkingdom.org" (rather than the official " tlhIngan-Hol(a)kli.org" address) are not archived. For whatever reason, when someone replies to this mailing list, the address is sometimes changed to the digitalkingdom.org one. Entire subthreads are missing from the KLI archive because subsequent replies sent to this address also disappear into the memory hole. Based on my investigation, it seems that this happens to specific people, which suggests that their email client is (mis)configured to ignore the "Reply-To" address, which is always set to "tlhIngan-Hol(a)kli.org" for messages sent from the mailing list. For whatever reason, some subsequent replies *reset* the address back to " tlhIngan-Hol(a)kli.org", which are again archived. I did a search in my mailbox for the query " to:tlhingan-hol@stodi.digitalkingdom.org from:me" and I had sent about two dozen messages to this address. I'm not one of the people whose email clients ignore the "Reply-To", so all of my unarchived messages are replies to threads where the email address had already been changed. Unfortunately, the threads I replied to include (among other things) reconstructions of the Klingon dialogue from the first two Abrams Star Trek movies, which I presume people might be interested in being able to find in the archive. I would recommend to check your email client to see if your replies are going to the "tlhIngan-Hol(a)kli.org" address, and to check your outbox to see if you had been sending messages to " tlhingan-hol(a)stodi.digitalkingdom.org" instead. Some of you are sending your replies *exclusively* to this address, so that you are basically invisible in the KLI mailing list archive. I don’t know a way to designate the difference in meaning between “the other side” and “another side” without explicitly describing that there are only two sides, and this is the other one, and that difference is a big deal in this title, since “another side of silence” implies silence, while “the other side of silence” is intended to mean that silence is a boundary, and this is about passing through that boundary into a place that is not silent, which explains the English title. And on a totally different topic: I just read that Agatha Christie’s novels have been translated into more languages than any other novelist, and that there have been more copies published than any other literature, except for the Bible and Shakespeare. Recently the list had a short discussion about the difference between {pa'Daq jIghoS} and {pa' vIghoS}. I'm curious about the relationship between those things when you add -moH onto the end of it. Is {pa'Daq qaghoSmoH} "I cause you to come to the room" or is it "While in the room, I cause you to come (somewhere unspecified)"? Intuitively, I feel like it should be the former, but I'm unsure. --jevreH

How many times do we need to repeat the -neS ?

Suppose we want to say: {nov Dun, Hoch jaj bIvemDI', nIQlIj DatIvmeH, vaghmaH Sor Sopchugh, vaj tagha' chal bIQ ngem Hoch Danatlh} "great alien, each day as soon as you wake up, in order to enjoy your breakfast, if you eat fifty trees, then finally the entire rain forest will be gone" (I wonder how I keep thinking this kind of sentences..) Anyway.. If we want to make this sentence honorific, then were do we place the -neS ? With the exception of the Dun which is used as an adjective, then do we need to place -neS on every single verb of that sentence ? That is should we write: {nov Dun, Hoch jaj bIvemneSDI', nIQlIj DatIvneSmeH, vaghmaH Sor SopneSchugh, vaj tagha' chal bIQ ngem Hoch DanatlhneS} ?
