whining vs. complaining

I just talked (wrote) to Marc Okrand. He did not reveral anything new, but these details may be an interesting addition just in case there are questions. Lieven: It's about the verb {bep} "complain, object, gripe". Can that be used at a funeral, where it is said that people who have lost an important person are "whining and complaining"? I'm not even sure it's correct in English. I found a word "wail". Marc Okrand: In English, "wail" is the correct term for people crying or sobbing loudly with grief at a funeral. The verb "whine" is used for a usually high-pitched crying kind of sound when you're complaining about something or unhappy about something. The kids whined when their father wouldn't let them eat cake. If the kids whined at a funeral, it would be because they didn't want to be there, not because they were sad (and any whining would be disrespectful — wailing at a funeral is not uncommon). [so this probably also refers to the verb {vIng}] Lieven: I think that {bep} is used only to say "Hey, stupid, you've done that wrong" or "It's cold in here" or "This chair is uncomfortable" -- but not "Oh no, I've lost my best friend"... is it?? placing an emphatic {-'e'} on {nuq}

We have the {nuq}, which is a question word. And we have the type-5 noun suffix {-'e'}.. However, the {nuq} *can* take an {-'e'}, in cases like: {vIghro' tIQ 'oH nuq'e' ?} Now, lets forget all this.. .. And lets imagine a classic moment of family happiness: There's the son, who demands more and more money, so the father being bled dry, eventually shouts at his son: "What more do you want from me ? What ???" As far as the second "what" is concerned, could it take an emphatic {-'e'} ? I know that in be sentences, the {-'e'} isn't actually the emphatic one, but I can't stop wondering, whether we *could* indeed add an emphatic {-'e'} on a {nuq}. ~ mayqel qunen'oS where the ancient cat goes we follow

how is the verb {weS} altered by {-chu'} ?

I'm wondering with regards to how the meaning of {weS} is altered, when the suffix {-chu'} is added. Suppose we write: {Huch wIweSpu'} we've suffered a reduction of money But how is that any different from: {Huch wIweSchu'pu'} we've perfectly undergone a reduction of money Does the {Huch wIweSpu'} mean that we've lost some money, while the {Huch wIweSchu'pu'} means that we've lost all our money ? But even so.. If we write: {100 *dollar*mey DIweSpu'} we've suffered a reduction of 100 dollars How is it any different from: {100 *dollar*mey DIweSchu'pu'} we've perfectly undergone a reduction of 100 dollars In both cases, haven't we lost *exactly* the same amount ? ~ mayqel qunen'oS the ancient cat.. a creature to admire.. and hate..
