Does the {'e' qa'} express a preference ?

In english one can say: "I learn klingon rather than vulcan" ; meaning simply "I don't learn vulcan, I learn klingon". On the other hand one can say "I'd rather learn klingon instead of vulcan", expressing a preference: "I prefer to learn klingon instead of vulcan". So, the question is, is the {'e' qa'} just a "neutral" "rather/instead of", or is it (too) the wishful "I'd rather ?" The way I understand it, it seems to be the neutral variant, but I would like to make certain. ~ mayqel qunen'oS

{neH} with SAO and indefinite subject

Before I ask my main question, I wanted to confirm my understanding of something: My understanding of the behavior of {neH} with a sentence as object has always been that there is an implicit {'e'} in there, and it isn’t wrong to make it explicit. For example, to say “they want the children to read those books”, one would typically say: {paqmeyvetlh laD puqpu' luneH} But it wouldn’t be wrong to say: {paqmeyvetlh laD puqpu' 'e' luneH} Is my understanding accurate? Or does {neH} really not take the pronoun {'e'} as an object, not even invisibly? Or do we just not know enough to be certain one way or another? Regardless of the answer to the above, I was thinking recently about {neH} with SAO and an indefinite subject. Which of these is the right way to say “it is wanted that the children read those books”? {paqmeyvetlh laD puqpu' net neH} {paqmeyvetlh laD puqpu' neHlu'} {paqmeyvetlh laD puqpu' 'e' neHlu'} (Or none of the above because you’re supposed to say something else, or some combination of multiple of the above…)

learning time

Hi there, I'm writing an article about the frequent question "How long does it take to learn Klingon?". I know that many of us had a non-defined beginning or end of learning, but some really started at one day and ended up quite fluently a short time later. I know of our greek friend (who changes his signature name constantly) and DeSDu', who both got quite fluent in about one year, proving what I'm saying all along. So - who is here among you or can tell about former Klingonists who may confirm they learned the language in a similarly short period of time? By the way, I'm not talking about fluent speakers of which there are only five in the world. It's more about those who can do a basic conversation, but still without any dictionary help. -- Lieven L.
