No living language would have all speakers agreeing to what is correct and what is not. Okrand could have said that he repeats rules that a Klingon Language Authority on Kronos has published, or what Klingon/Federation scientists have decided (sometimes he actually does refer to Federation linguists, but most of time not). Instead, he took the approach of having one single individual whose language we study. I like this approach. When Maltz says that some phrases sound bad, or are inappropriate, etc., they are opinions of that individual. Not some recommendations of a Klingon language committee on Kronos or hypotheses of linguists. They are real opinions of a "real" individual, Maltz, using a living language. What I least want is Paramount/CBS to take over. I don't want those people to have anything more to do with Klingon. They didn't use Klingon when they made good television series, and now that they know Klingon they make bad television series. On TKD p. 29, in the example for {-'e'}, there's the sentence {lujpu' jIH'e'}, which looks like it's missing a prefix {jI-}. Dr. Okrand confirmed to me that this is a typo. He mentioned this in passing while we were going through the paq'batlh, as {jIlujpu'} appears on p. 71. This sentence happened to come up in a discussion on Discord, so I thought I'd mention this fact here for posterity. I think everyone already knew it was an error, anyway. (Also, for anyone wondering about the status of the paq'batlh 2ed, I've done as much as I can in making the revisions that Dr. Okrand had clear ideas about, and the rest is up to Dr. Okrand to make a few final decisions and the publishers to incorporate the edits. So it's out of my hands now. I have no ideas about any publication date.) -- De'vID
