We say: puH Duj muD Duj bIQ Duj However, we say: veSDuj may'Duj toQDuj tlharghDuj lupDujHom And there is the {paq Duj} too, which since we don't have any of those in greece, I don't know what it is, nor do I care to find out either.. Now, from the examples above ({paq Duj}, whatever the ghe''or it is, aside), it shows that seemingly/apparently in Ca'Non, when a ship is described on the basis of *where* it travels, the two words are written separately, but when a ship is specified on the basis of its' mission, then the two words are smooshed together.. So, the question arises: If we want to say "love ship" (as ridiculous as it may sound), do we need to write {parmaqqay Duj} or {parmaqqayDuj} ? Or if we need to say "food ship", do we write {Soj Duj} or {SojDuj} ? Or is it, that only god (i.e. maltz), has the right to be smooshing words together ? ~ mayqel qunen'oS

I agree with SuStel below. Use transitive/intransitive and link to a definition. A single word is less to read than a sentence, and once you know the meaning you don't need more. If you don't know the meaning, you have the link to explain it. Bonus: you can add a more detailed explanation of what it means with regard to klingon, and how it is determined/verified that the verb is either. Klingon seminar taught at U of Arizona

I've just been informed that there is a 1-unit freshman honors seminar on Klingon language this semester taught by Prof. Natasha (nataSa) Warner at the University of Arizona, if anyone's interested. (Is anyone keeping a list of university courses taught about Klingon? I seem to recall someone having had such a list at some point, maybe on the KLI web site.) -- De'vID

chabal tetlh voting criteria

What are some of the criteria you use when deciding whether to vote a chabal tetlh word submission up or down? There is, of course, the atomicist school of thought, which only votes +1 on words if Klingon can't already express them through a workaround with existing vocabulary. Not all chabal voters are atomicists, though. There there is the culturalist school, which votes +1 on concepts that would be important to the Klingons, given what we know about the culture Marc Okrand has illuminated. The atomicist attitude is not sufficient alone, however, to account for all the -1 votes at chabal tetlh on Kli.org. I'm puzzling over why so many people are voting down "helicopter" and "hemp". (Does Kronos have a !hemp plant that I'm unaware of that already has a Klingon name?) As for my votes, I tend to vote -1 on concepts that already have a canon way of being expressed, such as the suggestion for "already". I vote down words for Earth-specific concepts that are neither commonly used even in English nor of peculiar interest to Klingon speakers. (Saarbrücken, Germany is important to Klingonists, so that got a +1 from me, but does Klingon really need a word for "haiku" at this point?) I also vote down entries where someone seemed to stuff too many concepts in one request, like requesting the name for every country on Earth in Klingon. Other than that, I vote up English words that are common, and *don't* already have a canon way of being expressed (like "gay"). I vote up non-planet-specific terms that don't have a straightforward and short workaround with existing vocabulary, even if they're less common (like "qubit"). And I vote +1 on classically Klingon concepts, like "path of a warrior" or Star Trek universe words, like "J'naii". (I will admit, though, that I had never heard of the J'naii until someone requested that word.)
