[tlhIngan-Hol] Personal Preferences and use of {HIja'} or {HISlaH}

That sounds like those people who prefer {HISlaH} over {HIja'} simply because they enjoy knowing another word (since HIja' can also mean "tell me").
Just curious regards other's use of {HISlaH} and {HIja'}. I know there's no difference and correct me if I'm wrong but personally I like {HIja'} and especially with the glottal stop cutting off it's short and sweet well befitting any enthusiastic yes as opposed to a {HISlaH} which I personally prefer for a reluctant yes like I'm saying yes but swearing under my breath as I do so ;-) Do other people just use the one they prefer, randomly use either or some other personal rule of thumb? qe'San aka Jonathan Brown
I can't decide which one to use; my brain just freezes up at the prospect of a decision like that! So my solution is to just always say no. :-Ъ Just kidding... -QISta' *Verbing AWESOMES language!* On Thu, Jun 2, 2016 at 12:46 PM, qe'San <qeSan@btinternet.com> wrote:

HIja’ is my usual affirmative response. I’ll say the longer HISlaH when there is any chance of ambiguity with “tell me” and when I want for some reason to prolong the word: emphatically, hesitantly, languidly, whatever. While reading through the thread, I starting thinking about how I would word my thoughts. Qov's response expresses exactly how it works with me. - DloraH
I remember also speaking with taD about his consistent use of HISlaH, who (don't quote me) seemed to explain that he chose to do so simply so that *someone* out there was using it. I would put myself in the 'randomly-use-either-or' camp. -- Socialist Alternative <http://www.socialistalternative.org/> Klingon Language Institute <http://www.kli.org/> On Thu, Jun 2, 2016 at 5:44 PM, DloraH <seruq@bellsouth.net> wrote:

I use {HISlaH} because I can spell it. I could never remember how to spell {HIja'} when I was new to the language . Likewise, in English, I write "sofa" because I can spell it. On Fri, Jun 3, 2016, 00:39 John R. Harness <cartweel@gmail.com> wrote:

I started learning Klingon with just Conversational Klingon and Power Klingon for several months before I got a copy of TKD. By the time I had the book in head, {HIja'} was already ingrained in my memory as *THE* word for "yes". It didn't even register that {HISlaH} was "yes" until I had to actually look it up. qurgh
