I use {HISlaH} because I can spell it. I could never remember how to spell {HIja'} when I was new to the language . Likewise, in English, I write "sofa" because I can spell it. On Fri, Jun 3, 2016, 00:39 John R. Harness <cartweel@gmail.com> wrote:
I remember also speaking with taD about his consistent use of HISlaH, who (don't quote me) seemed to explain that he chose to do so simply so that *someone* out there was using it.
I would put myself in the 'randomly-use-either-or' camp.

HIja' is my usual affirmative response. I'll say the longer HISlaH when there is any chance of ambiguity with "tell me" and when I want for some reason to prolong the word: emphatically, hesitantly, languidly, whatever.
While reading through the thread, I starting thinking about how I would word my thoughts. Qov's response expresses exactly how it works with me.
