Hi, For those of you who've been asking, the paq'batlh 2nd edition is almost ready to go to publication. I'm hoping that it will be out in June. I just sent a very-close-to-final-draft to the editors, but there's like one or two things that Dr. Okrand and I are still discussing. He's promised to get back to me within a few days, and then it should be ready to be published. (I hope I don't jinx it by posting about it.) -- De'vID

The Fek'lhr was quite busy. We missed the June deadline, but I've just sent the final revisions to the publisher. If any errors remain, I guess someone will just have to organise a 3rd edition. -- De'vID

I have the final draft. I have a few days to proofread it before it gets published. Does anyone want to help proofread it? I can send a copy of the file to a few people, but the publishers want both to limit the number of people and to have it done very soon. The plan now is to release it on next Monday. -- De'vID
Latest update: I just received the digital proof copy and gave the go ahead to publish. The digital version will be available to download on July 27 (the day before the qep'a'), and the print book will be available to order on that date from Amazon also. (If Fek'lhr doesn't interfere, that is.) -- De'vID

For anyone who does not know what paq'batlh is, there is a general description on it at the Klingon Language wiki, including several crosslinks to relevant information, including the one mentioned above: http://klingon.wiki/En/Paqbatlh -- Lieven L. I'm not interested in whether it's canonical or not. My interest lies in being able to interpret the *no' Hol.* I believe Okrand originally wrote it to be a sort of puzzle for people to figure out, but I honestly never wanted to take the time to work it all out. Now someone has. -- SuStel http://trimboli.name

That part of the book is clearly written by DeSDu', as you mention yourself, he signed that part. Anyway, that information is not really so new. Many years ago (around 2012?), I think it was 'ISqu' who wrote an analysis of that no' Hol here on the mailing list. That analysis was one day archived in the Klingon Language Wiki. In the text written by DeSDu', he refers to that page on the Wiki. http://klingon.wiki/En/PaqbatlhAncientKlingon So briefly, the analysis is not canon, but it's a very good analysis of a canon text of ancient Klingon. -- Lieven L. Thank you for clarifying this.

Sadly, this disappoints me beyond words. I feel like I was about to drive a Ferrari, and now I'm being given a skateboard. -- Dana'an https://sacredtextsinklingon.wordpress.com/ Ζεὺς ἦν, Ζεὺς ἐστίν, Ζεὺς ἔσσεται· ὦ μεγάλε Ζεῦ

Why? Whether it's canon or not, the analysis contains useful information which can be verified against the text. If its statements are true, then they are facts about "canon", whether or not they are themselves "canonical". -- De'vID

And... we have our first report of an error in the second edition, a correction that we missed: p. 193, line 11: {qa' wIje'meH maSuv / qo'maj wISachmeH maSuv} "We fight to enrich the spirit / And to expand our realm" The subject of {Sach} is what gets expanded; it should've been {wISachmoHmeH}. DopDaq qul yIchenmoH QobDI' ghu'! There will most certainly be others. (Anyone want to volunteer to edit a third edition?) -- De'vID
A message for all, but mostly German Klingonists: While the paq'batlh was being corrected, a German translation was made as well. It is now available on Amazon nearly worldwide: https://www.amazon.de/paqbatlh-Epos-Klingonen-Kees-Ligtelijn/dp/3982396808/ and also in the webstore of the Deutsches Klingonisch-Institut: https://klingonisch.de/webshop/buecher/paqbatlh-das-epos-der-klingonen/ -- Lieven L.
