Can we place adjectives on the nouns of a noun-noun construction ?
Recently, on the "learn klingon" facebook group, there was a discussion, with regards, whether the two nouns of a noun-noun construction can have adjectives. For example {la' Dun vIghro' tIQ} "the ancient cat of the great commander". Personally, I would avoid using such constructions, because they could be confusing. However, I would like to ask, whether there is a rule prohibiting such constructions. Because, although I've read that facebook thread, I still don't understand whether they're illegal or not. ~ m. qunen'oS nothing better than a warm cup of Ca'Non
Perhaps it’s too early in the morning, but how is {la' Dun vIghro' tIQ} confusing? The only alternate translation I can think of is “Commander, the ancient cat is great.” Using punctuation prevents any misunderstanding. That’s what it’s for. -- Voragh From: mayqel qunen'oS Recently, on the "learn klingon" facebook group, there was a discussion, with regards, whether the two nouns of a noun-noun construction can have adjectives. How about *logh Hop Hut tengchaH* /Deep Space 9/ from Skybox 99? Or *tlhIngan Dujmey law’qu’ SommeyDaq batlh cha’lu’* /has been emblazoned upon the hulls of countless Klingon Starships/ from Skybox SP1? Sure, it's legal. And canonical. -- SuStel http://trimboli.name

You're right. Not much ambiguity at the example that I wrote. I guess I was influenced, by the discussion in the facebook learn klingon group. ~ m. qunen'oS the soothing qualities of warm Ca'Non
That was likely me, but I had misinterpreted what TKD said. SuStel and qurgh offered corrections in reply. —jevreH Sent from my iPad
