The new series coming later this year... Does anybody here know if CBS attempted to make contact with either the KLI or Okrand in the hopes of at least attempting to use tlhIngan Hol, or is the new series going to continue with the traditional "Par Hol"?

In such questions, Okrand usually answers with "I can't talk about it", but the last time I asked him, he just gave me a very convincing "No." -- Lieven L. Litaer aka Quvar valer 'utlh Grammarian of the KLI http://www.klingonwiki.net/En/ParamountHol
Have you seen the new trailer? If THOSE guys are Klingons, I'm not sure I will keep saying I like Klingons :-/ http://www.cbs.com/shows/star-trek-discovery/video/LeDfVOm_JkJcYJF9ju2izuFJB... These Klingons are a kick in the ass of fifty years of movie history. They may look pretty well as an alien character, but they do not resemble any kind of Klingon we have ever seen. A little bit of continuity should be there; nobody will recognize such Klingons as Klingons, so I'm not sure that will help people to want to learn Klingon because they like or recognize the guys. These new characters look like cockroaches in spiky uniforms; they have no hair, no beard - and we know: toDuj 'oS rol. And I'm not saying this like an old man who wants his old TV show back or does not accept changes. -- Lieven L. muHaghmoH mu'tlheghvam. If you see errors I would be happy to be corrected; I'm a learner... thank you What I was trying to say with each sentence was: "I agree. I don't want to be learning Klingon for nothing." "This made me laugh." (I know a Klingon would probably not feel the need to state that something made them laugh.)

*-meH* is a verb suffix; you can't put it on nouns. The English idiom /for nothing/ isn't something you can translate quite so easily; you have to turn it into a non-idiomatic idea first. *tlhIch purwI'*/smoke inhaler:/ the subject of *pur* inhales something. The English might be ambiguous; the Klingon is not. *tlhIch purmeH jan*/device for inhaling smoke/ might be a pipe, but it might also be a cigarette or a bong. She also revealed that she has been training with a dialect coach to help her with speaking Klingon, but noted she has some flexibility in how she approaches the role: “Each series is such a classic thing, but also such an innovative thing,” she explained. “The actors have really been encouraged to make it their own. I’ve even been encouraged to make the Klingon language my own.”
I'd hope she's talking about Okrand's language there, but who knows... most people can't tell the difference; until this year I thought they spoke real Klingon on DS9. On Thu, May 18, 2017 at 1:54 AM, DloraH <seruq@bellsouth.net> wrote:

The KLI did assist with some promotional materials. The KLI was contacted directly from the PR department. PR and Production are completely different departments and one might do things completely different from the other. The KLI as an entity does not have a hand in the production. I have not heard of any KLI members being involved, either, though if they were, they would almost certainly be covered by a NDA and couldn't say so. We'll just have to wait and see. As this is a CBS show, they don't have the rights to use "Par Hol". Actors are supposedly working with dialog coaches to perfect the new "CBS Hol". A new CBS pIqaD was revealed on some promotional materials. One should be careful not to use any Paramount-produced pIqaD when discussing DSC. ~naHQun -- ~Michael Roney, Jr. Freelance Translator
