Klingon Word of the Day for Monday, October 05, 2020 Klingon word: SaQ Part of speech: verb Definition: cry _______________________________________________ (HQ 12.4:9): For Klingons, even though there is a word for cry ({SaQ}), there is no word for tear or tears, undoubtedly because Klingons have no tear ducts. [mentioned in ST6] The only thing Maltz could think of that eyes do from time to time is redden ({DoqchoH}, literally "become red or change to red"). [cf. http://memory-alpha.wikia.com/wiki/Tear_duct ] (MO > LLL, 12/18/2019): In English, "wail" is the correct term for people crying or sobbing loudly with grief at a funeral. The verb {whine" is used for a usually high-pitched crying kind of sound when you're complaining about something or unhappy about something. "The kids whined when their father wouldn't let them eat cake." If the kids whined at a funeral, it would be because they didn't want to be there, not because they were sad (and any whining would be disrespectful — wailing at a funeral is not uncommon). Unlike humans, Klingons do not cry at weddings. (Worf, TNG "Data's Day") (Lieven < MO, 12/02/2018): {'onroS} ["drop"] can be used for tears: just say {mIn 'onroS} "eye drop" SEE ALSO: bey howl, yell (v) jach scream, cry out, shout, yell (v) mIn eye (n) -- Voragh Ca'Non Master of the Klingons
