When we say "cold warrior", I don't think that the actual meaning is "ready to fight" ; it is rather "ready to destroy without holding back or feeling remorse, perhaps bordering on the ruthless"
The English idiom "cold war" refers to a state of hostilities in which no (or very little) actual fighting takes place or has yet taken place. Thus, a "cold warrior" is indeed a warrior who is prepared to fight. -- De'vID
