You failed to quote the relevant part: Thus {DIrmey} "skins" and {veDDIrmey} "pelts" are not (or, perhaps better, are no longer) body parts, but rather are materials from which things (clothing or blankets, for example) may be made. They've lost their association with the creatures that originally had them. A skin, in the context of removing it from an animal's body, is a body part. A skin, in the context of a material used for hangings, blankets, and clothing, is not a body part. Likewise with pelts. The question then becomes whether turning body parts into food changes them from body parts to non-body parts. My initial reaction is no: we have *tIqnagh lemDu'*/tknag hooves/ from KCD. I can't think of any other food item from a body part that has been pluralized in canon. -- SuStel http://trimboli.name

Those are all body parts. They are all considering plural items in reference to their being formerly or hypothetically connected to bodies. -- SuStel http://trimboli.name

All of those examples are still body parts. Okrand made it quite clear: Body parts are body parts, and only if their meaning has changed to something else, a different usage, that is not considered a body part any more, than the suffix changes. The given example of the {veDDIrmey} clearly explains that they are not considered as a body part, they are seen like a material. If in doubt, just see it as an exception; Body parts remain body parts. A formatted version of the message is found here: http://klingon.wiki/En/Stk_1998-03-23b -- Lieven L. This confusion was addressed at qepHom interview 2018 with Okrand. When I mentioned the "detached"-idea of chicken wings as a food item, and asked if they should not take the suffix -Du', Okrand clearly answered "Why not? They're still wings!" So at least foor food items, they are considered body parts — even when detached. -- Lieven L.
