{law}, bat'telh in new words list
I just discovered the word {law} in the New Words List, 'nogree (1/243 of a circle)'. Was there a discussion here about this word? Are there other words based on powers of three in Klingon math? Is the English for {betleH bey'} really 'Bat'telh display', or should it be 'Bat'leth display'? lay'SIv

You think that's an English word, huh? /Star Trek/ writers have written the name of that weapon in all sorts of ways. /Bat'telh/ is one. /Bat'leth/ is another. -- SuStel http://trimboli.name
It's not Klingon, although it's from the Klingon word. That only leaves English. lay'SIv On Thu, Mar 23, 2017 at 6:41 PM, SuStel <sustel@trimboli.name> wrote:

{cheb'a'} and {'uj'a'} are units of measurement equivalent to nine {cheb} and nine {'uj}, respectively. The idiom {wa'maH wej} meaning "it's complicated" is a reference to the archaic ternary-ish counting system. [The Klingon Dictionary gives examples: "Counting proceeded as follows: 1, 2, 3; 3+1, 3+2, 3+3; 2×3+1, 2×3+2, 2×3+3; 3×3+1, 3×3+2, 3×3+3; and then it got complicated."] Is the English for {betleH bey'} really 'Bat'telh display', or should it be
'Bat'leth display'?
I took the "bat'telh" spelling from the scripts for ST:TNG and from the Star Trek Encyclopedia. Can someone with the recently revised and expanded edition of the Encyclopedia tell me whether it has changed the "official" spelling to more closely match the bizarre Federation pronunciation? -- ghunchu'wI'

The new edition of the Encyclopedia has it listed as "bat'leth". qurgh
ghunchu'wI': Re nogree: I'm going to take that as a 'no'. Thanks for checking on the spelling. lay'SIv On Thu, Mar 23, 2017 at 9:16 PM, Alan Anderson <qunchuy@alcaco.net> wrote:

I didn't actually say it, but I was thinking only of new material. Specifically the 'nogrees' and anything related to it. lay'tel SIvten On Fri, Mar 24, 2017 at 4:28 AM, Alan Anderson <qunchuy@alcaco.net> wrote:

Take it as you will, but nine is a power of three.
