(qurgh?, 7/2017): ... a word you might use when describing a bowl full of {qagh}
It was described that way on page 4 of the booklet of the qep'a', which included some other words with the title "Movements". If you like to be /very/ correct, there were no dots, but parentheses: {ghIS} - wiggle, squirm (v) (a word you might use when describing a bowl full of {qagh}) -- Lieven L. Litaer aka the "Klingon Teacher from Germany" http://www.klingonisch.de http://www.klingonwiki.net/En/StarTrekDiscovery
Thanks. Since it was a sentence fragment, I assumed there was some missing text. --Voragh -----Original Message----- From: Lieven L. Litaer Am 26.04.2018 um 17:14 schrieb Steven Boozer:

It would be good though, if on the qep'a' leaflet, the exact source of each comment was being mentioned. I mean, who wrote the "a word you might use when describing a bowl full of {qagh}" ? was it qurgh indeed, or was it someone else ? ~ ni'ghma On Thu, Apr 26, 2018 at 6:26 PM, Steven Boozer <sboozer@uchicago.edu> wrote:

The content of those documents is taken from the material presented to me by Dr. Okrand, with as few edits as I can possible make. That comment came from him, not me, although I added the parentheses. qurgh On Thu, Apr 26, 2018 at 11:54 AM, mayqel qunenoS <mihkoun@gmail.com> wrote:

Do we have a sense of what the difference is between the meanings of {ghIS} and {nogh}? In English, "wiggle" or "squirm" does accurately describe what a bowl of {qagh} would do, and it would be a little bit strange (but still basically correct) to use "writhe". In my experience, "writhe" usually describes people who are in pain, though I guess you might see it in other contexts. - SapIr On Thu, Apr 26, 2018 at 03:26:24PM +0000, Steven Boozer wrote:

We don't know of any difference. I'd say the difference between /squirm/ and /writhe/ is that the latter suggests tension while the former does not. But there's no telling whether the Klingon words have the same difference. On 4/26/2018 4:07 PM, kechpaja wrote:

I have a slight idea, because I always try to translate the words into German. Unfortunately it always leaves some room or interpretation, so it's not definitleycorrect. I thought that {nogh} "writhe" means somehow to bend, like when you have pain. The word {ghIS} seems to me a lot more faster and regular movement, because the example of gagh was given. Also because it was given next to words with the meaning of tremble and shake. The gagh on the table is {ghIS}-ing, and when you hit your fork into it, it will {nogh}. But that's just an interpretation with no evidence. -- Lieven L. Litaer aka the "Klingon Teacher from Germany" http://www.klingonisch.de http://www.klingonwiki.net/En/TheKlingonDictionary
