Another beautiful question came to mind.. First, let us all remember.. {Dep} = being (non-humanoid) maj.. And now read the following reasoning: Are birds beings ? Yes Are they humanoid ? No So, they are {Dep}s too Similarly: Are animals beings ? Yes Are they humanoid ? No So, they are {Dep}s too What do you think about that ? Maybe they are a type of {muD Dep}. {bo'Degh} would be to {muD Dep} as {ghotI'} is to {bIQDep}. I wonder if there is a group called {puH Dep} that includes {ghargh}.
Are animals beings ? Yes Are they humanoid ?
Yes. There are humanoid animals. Monkeys and apes come to mind. I assume {Dep} excludes them and all the Star Trek aliens that resemble Humans. qurgh

I'm guessing *gharghmey* live underground. In that case I'd be inclined to call them *wutlh Dep*.
Some do, some don't. Remember that {ghargh} is snakes as well as worms. qurgh

When Star Trek refers to /humanoids,/ it usually means something like "looks a lot like humans, but not a species from Earth." Basically, whenever you create an alien race by sticking prosthetics to a human face, that's a humanoid. Monkeys, mugatos, and so on may be similar to humans in shape, but wouldn't be considered humanoids. This difference is more true of the original /Star Trek/ than later shows, as they started getting the science more accurate. I don't know whether Okrand was thinking of the Star Trek definition of /humanoid,/ or something more general. -- SuStel http://trimboli.name

I know that perhaps, it was strange that I asked about this subject, but the thing that confused me and led to this thread, was the impression I had, that {Dep} was meant to be used only for beings like the crystalline entity, or the beings in a next generation episode, which called humans "ugly bags of water". ~ m. qunen'oS here kitty kitty.. here kitty kitty..
That was “ugly bags of mostly water”. I think of {Dep} as the most generic term for a living entity. I’m a little surprised that humanoids are excluded, and wonder if language is involved in the threshold. Sent from my iPhone. charghwI’

When not using scientific jargon, the English word /animal/ means all members of the animal kingdom except humans. This seems similar to me. -- SuStel http://trimboli.name

True; that's my idea of humanoid too.. Which brings me to the next (and most important) question of this thread. Does the cookie monster qualify as a {Dep} ? Or is it just a {tlhapragh} ? It may seem strange to wonder something like that, but hey !, these are the matters that concern me.. ~ m .qunen'oS
