Vocabulary:- What Dr. Okrand and I are looking for specifically are gaps in the vocabulary relevant to Star Trek. The original TKD was intended to cover vocabulary needed to say anything said by a Klingon up to Star Trek III. The second edition's addendum added a few things from Star Trek VI and the early seasons of TNG. KGT added some more things from TNG and DS9 as well. What we would like for the new edition of TKD is to be able to cover anything said by any Klingon character, or anything for which there should be a Klingon term, up to the new shows. This includes words made up by Star Trek writers which haven't been given a backfit into Okrandian orthography (e.g., things like "gorch" and "kajunpakt" before Dr. Okrand confirmed them).
While I was browsing the parody website amirite.com, I was searching for parodies of the Human League's "Don't You Want Me". I found a filkish song titled "Give Me Oomox, Human". I was confused, since I had never watched Star Trek, and thought, "Is this a Klingon thing"? I wikipediaed "oomox" and discovered that oo-mox, properly spelt with a hyphen, was a /Ferengi/ thing. Klingon doesn't have a word for it, of course -- yet. I suppose they would Klingonize this as something like *'u'matlh* ooor *'u'motlh*. So, although it's a Ferengi thing and not a Klingon thing, should Klingon have a word for oo-mox? Also, we were without *borgh* for a long time, but we finally got it. I don't know much about the Star Trek world that I haven't learned from studying tlhIngan Hol. I guess the Trekkies here could provide a long list of animals, plants, foods, religious concepts, practices, monetary units, sports and games, etc. associated with Klingons and other Star Trek peoples. Isn't there a list of non-canon Klingon terms at the website, too?

*English *doesn't even have a word for it. There's apparently no Betazed word for it either. I doubt Klingon would have -- or *want* -- a word for it. As you say, it's a Ferengi thing. -- ghunchu'wI'

No. If it *had* been a Klingon word that the show writers had made up, and which didn't have an official "Okrandian" spelling yet, then it would be exactly the sort of thing I'm looking for. Or if, for example, there was an episode where a Klingon getting oomox or saying the word "oomox" was an important plot point that shows that at least some Klingons are familiar with the concept and that it would be reasonable for a Klingon to discuss it in Klingon. We're compiling an updated word list for a Klingon dictionary, not a Star Trek dictionary.

Well, so far I've received nothing. Maybe Dr. Okrand has been very thorough thus far and has revealed terms for every Klingon concept discussed in the shows? If this is true, it'd also be nice if someone who's checked this can confirm it.
Isn't there a list of non-canon Klingon terms at the website, too?
I don't know what you mean by this. Which website, the KLI one? -- De'vID

Agreed. Like Alan wrote it a few days ago, we don't even have an English word for oomox.

I haven't checked, but simply because I lack time at this moment. The only way to find that out is to watch all latest shows and think about how tey can be translated into Klingon. We didn't have much Klingons since DSC though. There were only very few situations in LDS.

Maybe it's a reference to the Extended corpus projekt, a list of Klingon words invented by authors. That might indeed be an interesting place to start. Also, one could check all those terms wehich we have labeled as not canon (in boQwI' for instance). https://www.kli.org/activities/extended-corpus/ But of course, those might be unknown dialects, so I see no reason to adapt them to tlhIngan hol. I suggest browsing Memory alpha for Klingon topics and see if we have Klingons words for them. I'm sure there are many. -- Lieven L. I see. That's not just non-canon. Most of it seems to be in the "Klingonaase" language invented by John M. Ford. -- De'vID
