Well, it turned out that Marc was going to see RENT performed in a few weeks! He also told me that that song had been covered in Klingon, although Marc had never seen/heard the video.
I think he has seen it and has just forgotten (or at least a version of it, if there's more than one recording or performance), because he made the following comment about it on Facebook: "Someone actually knows how to use Klingon numbers!" (source: https://www.facebook.com/marc.okrand/posts/345321122223456)
Huh. Well, what do you know.
Here are the lyrics.>>{vaghbIp cha'netlh vaghSaD javvatlh tup, lo'laHbogh vaghbIp cha'netlh vaghSaD poHmey, vaghbIp cha'netlh vaghSaD javvatlh tup. chay' DIS DajuvlaH?
bIjuvmeH pemmey, povmey, ramjepmey, qa'vIn HIvje'mey, 'ujmey, qelI'qammey, naD, QeH ghap Dalo'laH. vaghbIp cha'netlh vaghSaD javvatlh tup Dalo'laH. chay' wa' yIn DIS DajuvlaH?
parmaq Dalo'laH'a'? parmaq Dalo'laH'a'? parmaq Dalo'laH'a'? bIjuvmeH parmaq yIlo'.}
Obviously, since it's a song, there are some liberties taken in the translation,
Like turning miles into kellicams?
but the grammar is faultless. The pronunciation could have been better, but it's quite good for a performer whom (I assume) does not actually speak the language.
Good to know the grammar is flawless. Hmmmm . . . if Rachel Bloom probably doesn't speak Klingon, that means someone else must have translated the lyrics. I wonder who wrote the translation.

I don't know the answer to that question. Maybe someone here does. btw does anyone else see James Landau's messages, or am I somehow the only one receiving them? It feels like I'm the only person who ever replies to his messages. -- De'vID

No matter what I do, no matter how I train my spam filters, turn them off, or white list him, his messages always end up in my junk mail folder. I don't even know he's posted until you reply. -- SuStel http://trimboli.name
I have exactly the same problem with Will Martin's posts. If someone doesn't quote him extensively, I have no idea what he has to say. (I use the MS Outlook and playing with the filters doesn't seem to work.) <jIDul> Voragh -----Original Message----- From: tlhIngan-Hol On Behalf Of SuStel Sent: Tuesday, January 4, 2022 3:44 PM On 1/4/2022 4:40 PM, De'vID wrote:

Same here. Martin's and Landau's. I've tried telling my service provider's filters they are not spam, but it doesn't help. Those messages never make it to my computer... unless someone quotes them. - DloraH On Tue, 2022-01-04 at 21:55 +0000, Steven Boozer wrote:

Same here with James Landau's messages. They never appear in my inbox; only in spam. And this never changes no matter how many times I characterize them as "not spam". Go figure. -- Dana'an https://sacredtextsinklingon.wordpress.com/ Ζεὺς ἦν, Ζεὺς ἐστίν, Ζεὺς ἔσσεται· ὦ μεγάλε Ζεῦ
While I’m tempted to suggest that Microsoft’s Email client rejects Apple’s Email service as junk for political reasons, for what it’s worth, when I write to this list, my messages show up in my Junk folder in Apple’s Mail app. Perhaps AI has become sufficiently intelligent that it recognizes that anything I say is junk.

My email client says "This email has failed its domain's authentication requirements. It may be spoofed or improperly forwarded!" with every message from this mailing list. I haven't seen this text with messages from other mailing lists. Could this be a problem with the mail server's configuration? No one knows if Rachel Bloom translated the lyrics herself, or if she had help? Whoever did the translation is pretty skilled, and I'm surprised that nobody here knows who that is, or if it's Rachel herself.

Okay, so it seems based on everyone's replies that you're using a cloaking device which only my tachyon scan can detect. Maybe you can do something about that from your end? -- De'vID
This came up before regarding Will Martin’s address, and there was *not* something that could be on his side or mine — evidently in his case, some part of the backbone considers his source *domain* as spam, and sends it through, but marks it as such. So, he can’t change that (at least without changing domains/ISPs), and no matter how many times I mark his emails as “not spam”, they *always* end up in my spam box. James may or may not be facing the same thing — I don’t see his emails at *all*, not even in my spam folder. This is a problem upstream from me though, as I know there are other emails that simply vanish into the ether rather than get to me, and my ISP claims they’re not doing it. Russ

Part of the issue is that, without exaggeration, more than 90% of Email these days is spam. At various levels of the hierarchy that is the Internet, entities filter out junk mail. As impressive as the AI that does this filtering may be, it is ultimately a human construct, and is imperfect. Most filtering happens before your ISP gets it. Your ISP filters some. Your Email client filters some. I seem to have a remarkably effective means of writing stuff that filters reject. Maybe it’s the domain, but I choose to believe that it’s my writing style, in both English and Klingon. It makes me feel special.
