Does {mon} have positive or negative meaning ? Or both ?
{mon} (v) = smile, grin, sneer, snarl, smirk Looking up these words, I get: grin: smile broadly, especially in an unrestrained manner and with the mouth open sneer: smile in a contemptuous or mocking manner snarl: (of an animal such as a dog) make an aggressive growl with bared teeth smirk: smile in an irritatingly smug, conceited, or silly way smile: form one's features into a pleased, kind, or amused expression, typically with the corners of the mouth turned up and the front teeth exposed Some of the above definitions are positive, and some are negative. So, is the {mon} positive or negative ? qunnoq

We don't know, but Okrand did talk about the word *mon* once <http://klingonska.org/canon/search/?file=1996-08-06b-news.txt&q=mon>: The Klingon word for "smile" is mon. This also means things like "snarl" and "smirk." I wouldn't be surprised to find a Klingon mon and growl at the same time, but mon by itself doesn't describe the full growling experience. -- SuStel http://trimboli.name

The same question comes in a famous painting: {mon'a' Lisa?} "Does Lisa smile?" Without paying attention to the other messages, I think that you can use {mon} for both situations and context makes clear if it's bad or not. {mon be'Hom 'IH} "the beautiful girls is smiling" {mon verengan QIp} "The stupid Ferengie is grinning" -- Lieven L.
