I couldn't find it in my notes nor is it listed in http://klingon.wiki/En/NewWordsQepHom2020 or http://www.qephom.de/e/newwords.html A pity as it seems a useful word. -- Voragh, Ca'Non Master of the Klingons Please contribute relevant vocabulary from recent qep’a’mey or qepHommey. quote: Maltz didn't know what {qav} by itself was, but he said he wouldn't be surprised to learn that {qav'ap} was shortened from {qavmeH 'ap} or something like that at some point in the past. I thought it might have to do with trying to analyze {qav'ap}. At the same qepHom 2020 {‘ap} was defined as "dues, toll". Examples: HIjmeH 'ap fee paid when bringing certain commodities into a jurisdiction (n) HIjmeH 'ap pIn customs officer (n) HuqmeH 'ap excise tax, sales tax, VAT (n) ngeSlIch ‘ap interest (on a loan) (n) Thanks, Voragh -----------------------------------Original Message----------------------------------- From: Lieven L. I answered the first question in another email. Also, I have just added the information to the page in the wiki, thanks for telling me. Please note that the newwords page at qepHom.de hasn't been updated since the KLI re-initiated their new words list in 2014. -- Lieven L. A pity as it seems a useful word.
How so? It's an unknown word, not a word that means "an unknown word". Personally, I don't think it belongs in KWOTD, and shouldn't be in a lexicon without annotations that it's not a word. There are any number of hypothetical ancient words which have fallen out of use which make up parts of existing words that Maltz isn't sure about or doesn't know the meaning of. -- De'vID

I absolutely agree. It's listed in the Wiki's word list only for reference, and only because Maltz talked about it. But it's marked as "not a word" and does not show up in the wiki's index.

True. That reminds me I wanted to make a list of those. There is a start here: http://klingon.wiki/En/WordsWithoutMeaning -- Lieven L. Litaer aka the "Klingon Teacher from Germany" http://www.tlhInganHol.com
That’s exactly what I meant -- a Klingon equivalent for, inter alia, “hapax legomenon” – a very useful word for lexicographers, especial of obscure or dead languages. (Cf. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hapax_legomenon ). -- Voragh _____________________________________________________ From: De'vID via tlhIngan-Hol On Fri, Dec 16, 2022 at 4:21 PM Steven Boozer wrote: Klingon Word of the Day for Friday, December 16, 2022 Klingon word: qav Part of speech: noun Definition: an unknown word Source: qepHom 2020 _______________________________________________ Can someone check this?
