Klingon Word of the Day for Monday, April 06, 2026 Klingon word: ghoptel Part of speech: noun Definition: signal (physical) Source: qepHom 2025 _______________________________________________ AFAIK not used in a sentence. (qepHom 2025, p. 32): A physical sign is a {vep}. If it's painted on a building, {vep} is usually sufficient. The most common way to refer to a free-standing sign is {vep 'echlet} (even if it's not a flat board). The general term for a signal (audible or visual usually) is {ghoptel}. (MO to Lieven, 11/20/20025): "For {ghoptel}, there's no difference between sign and signal. For {vep} (and {vep 'echlet}), sign is usually the better translation. A {vep 'echlet} is kind of {ghoptel}, but in everyday conversation, you're not likely to refer to a {vep 'echlet} as a {ghoptel}. A street sign and a beep on your computer are both examples of a {ghoptel}. SEE: vep proclamation, notification, announcement, etc. (n) -- Voragh Ca'Non Master of the Klingons
