Klingon word: DI'on Part of speech: noun Definition: characteristic, trait Source: qepHom 2016 _______________________________________________ meHghem yoS botlh DI'on 'oH ghommeH yotlhvam'e' The plaza is a central feature of the Cultural District. (Pittsburgh Art Tour) (MO > Lieven, qepHom 2017, 11/20/2017): The English word personality can have two meanings: (1) qualities or traits that form a person's character (as in 'That TV host has a friendly personality') or (2) qualities that make a person popular, charm, charisma (as in 'The host has a lot of personality'). The noun {DI'on} works for the first meaning, it means characteristic or trait, and could be used if a person is a grouch ('He has a bad personality'). Meaning (2) always refers to positive personal characteristics. To describe this 'personality' that's an asset along with physical strength and intelligence, use {loy'}. This verb means something like "have personality, be charismatic, be charming." (De'vID < MO, 2/25/2018): As you say, case, lower case, and upper case are not Klingon things, so there's no traditional Klingon jargon for this. Maltz said to just use big and small: {ngutlh tIn}, {ngutlh mach}. For ignore case, perhaps {ngutlh Sar buSHa'} "ignore written-character variety" or {potlhbe' ngutlh Sar} "written-character variety isn't important." (De'vID < MO, 1/16/2019): [Maltz] suggested using {DI'on} "characteristic, trait" instead of the noun {Sar} [variety] when referring to cases (upper/lower). {DI'on} can also be translated as style (in the sense of "distinctive appearance," not in the sense of "elegance, sophistication, pizazz," etc.). CULTURAL NOTES: (CK): As you practice speaking, remember: Speak Klingon boldly; do not be meek or hesitant. This could be interpreted as a sign of weakness, a less than admirable trait among Klingons. (KGT 172): Agreeing is not a trait typically associated with Klingon nature, however, and apparently, at least under certain circumstances, this may extend to grammar as well. (KGT 142): For a visitor to a Klingon settlement, of course, the fate of any given trait is only of academic interest.
