Klingon word: qID Part of speech: noun Definition: joke _______________________________________________
AFAIK the noun has never been used in a sentence.
The word {lut tlhaQ} appeared in a chapter on PK about jokes. In the example dialogue, the speaker asked for a {lut tlhaQ} and the responder told a joke. So even though the canon translation is "funny story", it might be glossed as "joke". The canon word for joke is {qID}. Okrand explained the difference: (qepHom 2022 booklet p. 17) Often interchangeable, but generally speaking, if the narrative wasn't particularly funny until the last line, that would be a {qID} while a {lut tlhaQ} is a narrative that's funny, at least sporadically, throughout. Note that to play a practical joke on someone, to trick on someone, is not {qID} (the verb meaning "joke"). It's {chem} "prank." -- Lieven L.
