It’s not so much a pun as a model for raising something to a power. Breeding implies exponential growth as offspring each have offspring, so the opposite of exponential growth is taking a root of a number, as if you were removing the action of having exponentially grown. pItlh charghwI’ ‘utlh (ghaH, ghaH, -Daj)
