For many years, I thought that the pun behind the word {'Iw} is the reaction of peeple who say "Eeeew" when they see blood. Now I was recently involved in a film production, where I saw a bottle of fake blood. The fake blood can be used internally (i.e. in your mouth), external, and it's washable. These three words are abbreviated on the bottle, simply reading "IEW". Knowing that Okrand worked on TV sets, it is possible that this is not just a coincidence. But maybe it really is just a coincidence, maybe we'll never know. -- Lieven L. Litaer aka the "Klingon Teacher from Germany" http://www.tlhInganHol.com http://klingon.wiki/Word/-Iw

Or maybe the company that made the fake blood was making the same joke that Okrand was making, saying "Eeeew" to the blood. -- SuStel http://trimboli.name
I think you are on to something. Maybe ALL of the puns we’ve been tracking are English puns based on the original Klingon, like the works of Shakespeare…

I thought it might be a brand name, but apparently IEW is a standard abbreviation in the theatrical make-up industry. I found some web pages for what appears to be a German company called Kryolan:: https://global.kryolan.com/product/special-blood-iew#50ml-dark https://www.ebay.com/itm/403230875608?hash=item5de26edfd8:g:TAUAAOSws1thaFJ3 https://www.makeup.de/make-up-shop/Special-Blood-IEW-light-250ml--1334.html?... https://www.makeup.de/make-up-shop/Special-Blood-IEW-light-100-ml--783.html?... The labels for their "Spezial Filmblut" products are in German and English. Was this what you saw, Lieven? But what does the abbreviation mean?
Ah, Lieven explained it earlier in the thread: "internal, external, washable". -- De'vID

Yes, that's exactly what I saw. -- Lieven L. Litaer aka the "Klingon Teacher from Germany" http://www.tlhInganHol.com http://klingon.wiki/Word/-Iw
