(ghunchu'wI', 8/22/2011): As the duel between Kahless and Molor continues, the opera repeats a phrase several times: {pan qeylIS betleH 'ej jach molor 'etlh} "Kahless's batlh'etlh sparks and Molor's sword roars." I might not be remembering the lyrics exactly, so please don't take them as perfect canon. ghunchu'wI' may have missed a word. This line shows up in paq'batlh as: qaStaHvIS wej rep pan qeylIS betleH 'ej jach molor 'etlh HoS [translation unavailable] {molor 'etlh HoS} "Molor's mighty/powerful sword" PUN: flash in a pan? PUN: flash in a pan?
A "flash pot or pan" is a stage device used to create fire & smoke using flash paper. Often sparkle additive is sprinkled onto the paper before it's ignited to get a shower of sparks. See https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kDRPf9df7OM for an example. qurgh
Also:
From the days of flintlock <https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/flintlock> firearms <https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/firearm>, where the main charge was intended to be fired by a small charge of gunpowder in the priming pan. If the resultant fire did not pass through the touch-hole and ignite the main charge, the momentary coruscation <https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/coruscation> produced noise and smoke, but no substantial effect, and was termed a “*flash in the pan*”. Sometimes called "*fluff in the pan*", the term refers to any ineffectual, short, spasmodic effort that dies in the attempt, such as an explosion of priming in the lockpan of a gun while the gun itself does not go off.
