When I was 8, they set up an planetarium in our school. It was like a tent that they projected a star map on the inside walls. I've also been to the planetarium inside The Children's Museum of Indianapolis, which, while more impressive than a tent, is still just one room of a bigger building. "museum of sky and space" seems way to grand for a temporary tent or a small room that is part of a larger museum. Even more confusing is adding "building" to the end as a museum is already a building. On Tue, Mar 7, 2017 at 10:19 AM, Steven Boozer <sboozer@uchicago.edu> wrote:

I wouldn't use {'angweD} for the sky-projecting domed room of a bigger building, and certainly not for that tent you described. The term that comes to my mind immediately is {chal lIlwI'}, or maybe {ram chal lIlwI'}.

Not quite. In English, a museum is usually understood to be a building, but it can also be a more abstract organization. In Klingon, it seems that {'angweD} has the abstract meaning as primary, and adding {qach} is the normal way to get across what in English is the default. -- ghunchu'wI'

A museum can be any collection of artifacts or objects on display—even non-solid ones. The IT department I used to work for once had a museum: a few shelves on one wall with a collection of old computers, each with a placard describing it. It was an *'angweD* without an *'angweD qach.* -- SuStel http://trimboli.name

I wonder whether the similarity between Klingon 'angweD "museum" and Welsh amgueddfa "museum" is coincidental. (The latter is formed from amguedd "treasure, (valuable) property, rarity" + -fa "place".) -- Philip Newton <philip.newton@gmail.com>
