The relationship words are very useful. I respect your opinion, but I don't agree. They are confusing and useless. There are Earth languages that describe relatives the same or in similar ways. They seem to manage just fine.   I find English to be too vague. You take your girlfriend to meet your family, "This is my Uncle Ernie". Ok, so is he on your dad's side or your mom's side? Is he related by blood, or through marriage?
