Re: [tlhIngan Hol] Klingon Word of the Day: re'chIv
The name Danny was actually the first thing that came to my mind, but when I googled "Danny headphones" all I saw were references to the Dany brand. It didn't occur to me that *DannI'* could be an in-joke about headphones and a Danny whom Marc Okrand knew personally, but if we have *yelneHSIQ* as the word for "vanadium", despite Chris Henley having nothing to do with vanadium, then that's a possibility.

Then there's the Dany headphone manufacturer. I discovered the name when I was trying to figure out the etymology/pun behind *DannI'* (which was my chabal tetlh request, BTW). Maybe that's it, maybe that's not it, but I can't imagine what else it would be.
It looks like the name "Danny". There are a number of words which are just named after people in Marc Okrand's personal life, and this may be one of them. Since Marc Okrand worked in captioning and movies, he probably knew many people who were always wearing headphones, and perhaps one of them was named "Danny". (IMDB does indeed show that he worked with a number of people named "Danny" or "Daniel" on the Star Trek movies.) Or perhaps an actor named Danny or playing a character named Danny wore headphones in a movie scene that's particularly memorable for Okrand. (I can't think of one, but I'm not a movie buff like he is.) I think those scenarios are more likely than an obscure headphone manufacturer, but unless Okrand tells us, we can only guess.
