Klingon word: yatlh Part of speech: verb Definition: be pregnant _______________________________________________ yatlh luqara' puqloD wa'DIch qenglI' Lukara, pregnant of their first-born son (PB 184-5) (Lieven, 11/02/2011): The new paq'batlh shows us that a pregnant woman does {qeng} ["carry"] a child. TREK NOTES: Klingon females carried their children for thirty weeks, though the Doctor believed that the gestation period for Klingon-Human hybrids would likely be less, and advised B'Elanna Torres to expect mood swings during her pregnancy. [VOY "Lineage"] The Doctor also warned Tom Paris that Klingon labor sometimes lasts several days. [VOY "Endgame, Part II"] The Klingon Kohlar asked a pregnant B'Elanna, "Did you conceive during the holy month of *Nay'Poq*?" Why this month is holy was not actually explained but it presumably has something to do with the *Kuvah'Magh* {quvamaq }, a Klingon messiah/savior figure. Later in the episode we see an intriguing ceremony: Kohlar leads B'Elanna - who is carrying the unborn *Kuvah'Magh* -- in a plea for the dead who are called by name ("Remember A son of B. Remember X daughter of Y. [etc.]"). Apparently, the honored dead in Sto-Vo-Kor can't rest if the living don't honor their memory.
