Klingon Word of the Day for Wednesday, August 17, 2022 Klingon word: mov Part of speech: noun Definition: top of foot Source: KGT This Klingon Word of the Day is brought to you by qurgh (qurgh@kli.org).
Klingon word: mov Part of speech: noun Definition: top of foot Source: KGT _______________________________________________ AFAIK never used in a sentence. SEE ALSO: qam foot (n) bem sole (of foot) (n) yaD toe (n) chap back (of hand) (n) toch palm of hand (n) -- Voragh, Ca'Non Master of the Klingons Please contribute relevant vocabulary or notes from the last year or two. I’ve fallen woefully behind in updating my files.
{mov} reminds me of a Klingon word we really should have. In TNG "Ethics" is a close-up of Worf's bare feet, and he has a lump of flesh about a centimeter tall on top of each foot at the location corresponding to the {DaSpu'} on a Klingon boot.* I feel certain there is a Klingon word for this anatomical feature. *I can't help but imagine this anatomical feature is the vestige of a claw, and that Klingon bootspikes celebrate (and replace) this former claw and are constructed to avoid unnecessary discomfort. Worf's Starfleet boots lacked spikes, but presumably they fit comfortably. ~mIp'av On Wednesday, August 17, 2022, Steven Boozer <sboozer@uchicago.edu> wrote:

I think the answer is easier than you might expect. There is a word {pu'} "horn", and as the "boot horn" is {DaSpu'}, I believe there is a connection. -- Lieven L. Litaer aka the "Klingon Teacher from Germany" http://www.tlhInganHol.com http://klingon.wiki/Word/DaSpu-
Thanks for reminding us of this: (The Little Prince, notes): The horn of an animal, same word as the spike on a boot (or a spike in general). When clarity is called for, say {Ha'DIbaH pu'} or {DI'raq loD pu'}. The plural of {pu'} is either {pu'mey} or {pu'Du'}, depending on the specific meaning of {pu'}. __ Voragh -----------------------------------Original Message----------------------------------- From: tlhIngan-Hol On Behalf Of Lieven L. (KGT 58): On the toe of each high boot (DaS), likewise made of animal hide (DIr), was a clawlike spike called a {pu'}. The word {pu'} now means phaser, and the newer meaning probably developed from the older spike because of the lightning speed with which one delivered a blow with the sharp {pu'}. In contemporary Klingon, the spike on the toe of a boot is always called a {DaSpu'} (boot spike), never {pu'} alone. I noticed that too the last last time I saw that episode, but I think this is the first time anyone else has mentioned it here. I suspect that that vestigial claw is/was also called a {pu’}, though I suppose *{qampu’} is clearer until Maltz tells us otherwise. -- Voragh _____________________________________________________________ From: Ed Bailey {mov} reminds me of a Klingon word we really should have.
