Klingon word: lep Part of speech: noun Definition: solid (state of matter) Source: qep'a' 23 [2016] _______________________________________________ AFAIK never used in a sentence. (KGT 164 re {Sub}): Literally meaning "be solid", as opposed to gaseous or liquid … a phrase such as {may' Sub} would mean only "solid battle" and would probably be considered a meaningless utterance. Maybe my knowledge of English is not sufficient, but what exactly does that mean? How would I use such a word in a sentence? We got this word together with {betgham} "liquid" and {lI'choD} "plasma (state of matter)". Can I say {betgham 'oH bIQ'e'} or {lep 'oH nagh'e'} ? Or does "solid" and "liquid" mean something else? How does {taS} "solution (liquid)" fit in here? Would a plural form of those makes sens? {lepmey vIlegh} -- Lieven L. In English, these words have other meanings in common use (especially colloquially) than their scientific understandings. “Solid” can also imply things like “firm” or “structurally stable” — including for abstract concepts. “Liquid” can be applied to movement and form. “Solution” can also be the answer to a problem. As a native English speaker, I personally find the disambiguation helpful to distinguish between other uses of the words. —jevreH Sent from my iPhone

I think the "state of matter" note was only to disambiguate which meaning Okrand is referring to. Note BTW that we also have the quality {Sub} "be solid". From: Lieven L. Litaer

As we know, In physics, a state of matter is one of the distinct forms in which matter can exist. Four states of matter are observable in everyday life: solid, liquid, gas, and plasma. < https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/State_of_matter > In addition to {SIp} "gas", we now have words for all four.
Can I say {betgham 'oH bIQ'e'} or {lep 'oH nagh'e'} ?
I would think so.

AFAIK our only example is from TalkNow!: {DIr QanwI' taS} "suntan lotion".

Well, it would to a Changeling. <g> Merriam-Webster has a comprehensive definition with some (not many) example sentences: https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/solid -- Voragh Ca'Non Master of the Klingons

Sure. Now for instance something you may hear in Star Trek , they are "venting plasma" - is it the same? Anyway, the note is good to see that this word can certainly not be used for blood plasma.

Hey, I'm being serious! ;-) For instance in chemistry class, when students are mixing "liquids"? Aren't those {betghammey}? At this point, based on my understanding, I think that plurals for these states should be fine. -- Lieven L.
