Klingon word: mI'rab Part of speech: noun Definition: spiral Source: qep'a' 24 [2017] _______________________________________________ AFAIK never used in a sentence. SEE ALSO: yamtaw line (n) Hut'In vIl screw (n) Hut'In nail (n) ver be spiral; be dizzy (v) vIl be ridgy (forehead) (v) (qurgh < MO, qep'a' 2017): [{ver}] is the same word as "be spiral". This refers to having a dizzy sensation -- being lightheaded, feeling like you're spinning around. It cannot be used in the sense of silly. ... You can also say {ver SuS'a'} "a tornado happens" (literally: "the big wind spirals"). {ver SuS} (or {ver SuSHom}) would most likely refer to a whirlwind. (Qov < Okrand, 8/12/2012): The word for screw is {Hut'In vIl}, which is, of course, a ridgy {Hut'In}. -- Voragh Ca'Non Master of the Klingons

I feel like there's a pun here involving an Arabic name for a "spiral" galaxy, or one visible in or near a constellation or star with an Arabic name. My astronomy is not good enough for me to figure out what it is, though. -- SuStel http://trimboli.name

It surely is a coincidence, but my Google search showed me there is a dance BAR in MI-chigan named "spiral". o_O -- Lieven L. Litaer aka Quvar valer 'utlh Grammarian of the KLI http://www.facebook.com/Klingonteacher http://www.klingonwiki.net/En/Puns

But now I just remembered that {mI'} means "dance" as well... :-] -- Lieven L. Litaer aka Quvar valer 'utlh Grammarian of the KLI http://www.facebook.com/Klingonteacher http://www.klingonwiki.net
"Mihrab" is the name for a niche in the wall of a mosque that indicates the direction to Mecca, but that idea doesn't seem to inherently or obviously have anything to do with spirals. There's no star named "Mirab" or anything similar. There's a more direct Star Trek connection that seems promising. In the language of the Tamarians, "Mirab, with sails unfurled" is used as a command to depart or to set engines to full power. I'm still not sure how that relates to spirals, though. But would this be significant to Marc Okrand? -- De'vID

At least more likely than a dance bar named spiral :-) But everything is possible. -- Lieven L. Litaer aka Quvar valer 'utlh Grammarian of the KLI http://www.facebook.com/Klingonteacher http://www.klingonwiki.net
The 17th-century Swiss mathematician Jakob Bernoulli was fascinated by the logarithmic spiral. He called it "spira mirabilis". -- ghunchu'wI'
