I've been asked to supply Klingon text to label restrooms at a hotel. I presume {loD} and {be'} will suffice, but I figured I'd start a discussion as this list has enjoyed discussing restrooms in the past. They also need a label for a gender neutral restroom. People who use this restroom may object to {loD be' je}. I presume {Hoch} works for this? ~naHQun ~Michael Roney, Jr. Sent from my Palm Prē
*Hoch* should work fine, IMO. Will the signs just have the word *loD/be'/Hoch* or will they be longer, like *loDpu' puchpa'* or the like? On Mon, Oct 30, 2017 at 2:35 PM, Michael Roney, Jr. <nahqun@gmail.com> wrote:

“Talk Now! Klingon” addressed the restroom issue: be' puchpa' ladies' toilet (TNK) loD puchpa' gents' toilet (TNK) loD be' ghap might be better, though nowadays joq and/or may be more politically correct! <g> Using le'be' be unexceptional/nonspecific/general is another option. -- Voragh From: naHQun I've been asked to supply Klingon text to label restrooms at a hotel. I think you are overthinking it. Just label it {puchpa'} and be done with it. — ghunchu'wI'
{puchpa'} works just fine if they're for just one person, but what if they accommodate several people? --Voragh -----Original Message----- On Oct 30, 2017, at 2:35 PM, Michael Roney, Jr. <nahqun@gmail.com> wrote:

I have to basically agree with this. While in theory, the gender-neutral restroom could just be labeled "restroom", people tend to expect restrooms to be segregated by gender, and will probably be confused if it isn't explicitly specified that this particular one is not. {Hoch} is probably fine if you're making each sign only one word, but you might need to do something like {Hoch nuv puchpa'} if you want to include the "restroom" word, to avoid that "all restrooms" interpretation. - SapIr On Mon, Oct 30, 2017 at 06:54:50PM +0000, Steven Boozer wrote:

If I needed a restroom and saw a door labeled /Restroom,/ I wouldn't be confused. I'd go in. On the other hand, if I needed a restroom and saw a door labeled /Everyone,/ I wouldn't be sure what it was trying to tell me. -- SuStel http://trimboli.name
At first I was going to just use {loD} and {be'} since that's all the written context you get in English, but I've opted to go with the TNK examples. Plus, I don't know if they're going to use a pictogram or not. Thanks to everyone for the input. ~naHQun
