Klingon word: mej'aD Part of speech: noun Definition: artery Source: qepHom 2015 p.14 _______________________________________________ (qepHom 2015, p.14): vein is {'aD}. In general usage, this means either a vein or an artery, so a better translation might be blood vessel. In medical usage, however, doctors and so on make a distinction between {mej'aD} "artery" and {paw'aD} "vein". Maltz said that he thought that earlier these were {mejmeH 'aD} and {pawmeH 'aD}, but over time they were shortened. SEE: regh bleed (v) - regh SuvwI' The warrior bleeds. (KGT) - "Note that for a Klingon warrior, bleeding is an indication of a particularly exhilarating battle, not a symbol of defeat." (KGT 192) SEE ALSO: tIq heart (n) 'Iw blood (n) QID wound (v) TREK NOTES: BASHIR: Another three centimeters to the right and you would have severed the brachial artery. [...] And if that had happened, you would have bled to death right there in the holosuite. MARTOK: The human fascination with what might have been is tiresome, Doctor. The artery was not severed and I am not dead. -- [DS9 "Soldiers of the Empire"] BTW... do we have terms for distinguishing preganglionic fibers and postganglionic nerves? Or is it the other way round? (Someone should ask Dr Bashir.) Hutvav nerve (anatomy) (n) ma'lI' fiber (n) SIrgh string, thread, filament (n) -- Voragh Ca'Non Master of the Klingons
