Klingon Word of the Day for Saturday, August 24, 2019 Klingon word: chu'wI' Part of speech: noun Definition: player (of an instrument) _______________________________________________ AFAIK never used in a sentence. SEE: chu' play (a musical instrument) (v) (KGT 74): There are special words used to describe the various techniques employed in playing specific instruments, but the general term for play a musical instrument is {chu'}, which, when applied to technologically advanced devices, including weapons, means "activate". Indeed, out of context, {jan chu'} could mean either "activate the device" or "play the instrument", which may be why {QoQ jan} (musical instrument) is seldom shortened to simply {jan}. When the context is clearly musical, a player,--that is, one who plays a musical instrument--is a {chu'wI'}, though more specific terminology may also be used, depending on the instrument being played. SEE ALSO: muchwI' musician (n) QoQ jan musical instrument (n) chu' play a musical instrument; activate a device (v) much perform [music] (v) Heng finger (holes, strings) to vary sound" (v) pang pluck [strings] (v) qeb squeeze [windbag] (v) rey squeeze and stretch out [windbag] (v) SuS blow [horn, pipe] (v) tlhaw' hit [drum] with fist (v) (HQ 10.2:8): The "finger verbs" are used when talking about specific ways of using a particular device (weapon, computer control panel, even musical instrument) -- Voragh Ca'Non Master of the Klingons
