Remain as in "I remain here", or remain as in "I remain the captain" ?

The former. ratlh was used in the Star Trek: Klingon game: luq ratlh okay, he remains (you, the main character, get to stay at the lopno').

The latter would be HoD jIHtaH or HoD vIDataH.
