I used {je'} because one of its meanings is "buy, purchase". Do I
understand {je'} wrongly ?

No, it's fine. It's just that {je'} has another meaning of "feed", though the usual object in that meaning is the person, animal, or spirit you're feeding.

I would still recommend {nob} to make it very clear that you actually gave him the coffee, not that you're just buying it for his benefit.
