<html><head></head><body><div style="font-family: Verdana;font-size: 12.0px;"><div>I've been putting off my two allowed new word requests until July. Now that the month of the qep'a' is here, however, I have an idea. I want to run it by you guys first, though, in case we already have these words.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>Klingon animals are often described as the equivalent of Terran animals. For instance, a gha'cher is described as being like a goat (and we can even say "got your goat"). And a notqa' is described as a big, black bird, plus its name translates to "nevermore", so the idea is it's supposed to be a raven.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>We have sheep, cows, pigs, dogs, cats, horses, wolves, ducks, penguins, bears, monkeys, spiders, scorpions, crickets, frogs, salamanders, and even the borrowed words for elephant and tardigrade, but...does the Klingon language have a word for a hippopotamus equivalent or a rhinoceros equivalent? Western children learn these animal words in their language when they are quite young, and they are included in most picture dictionaries, yet I haven't encountered a Klingon word for "hippo(potamus)" or for "rhino(ceros)". They have given us the names of Rhino Records, Eco Hippo bags, the Rhinoceros Party, the board game Hungry Hungry Hippos, and the Pearl Jam album <em>Rhinosaur</em>. I want to request them, but does Klingon already have words I've overlooked for these two mammals?</div></div></body></html>
