Klingon Word of the Day for Thursday, December 25, 2025

Klingon word: jaqtala'
Part of speech: noun
Definition: puberty, /jak'tahla/ (Klingon)
Source: qepHom 2019
_______________________________________________

AFAIK not used in a sentence.

(Qov, 7/29/2013): Marc told a story [at qep'a' 2013] in which he was alerted that a producer was going to call him looking for a Klingon word for puberty. He prepared a few alternatives, as he usually does in such cases. When the phone call came the question was, 'Is there a Klingon word for puberty?' Marc answered, 'No....' preparing to then provide his suggestions, but the producer cut him off, 'Good, because I made one up.' Marc said that fortunately the producer's word was consistent with Klingon phonology, so in my opinion Marc has accepted that word into canon. ... He explains Worf calling a pimple a *gortch* by saying that Klingons are so embarrassed by such things that they name them in an alien language, to distance themselves.

TREK NOTES:

"Roughly translated puberty. Although for a Klingon, that scarcely does it justice." (Picard, ST: Insurrection)

In 2375, the metaphasic radiation from the Ba'ku planet's rings caused Worf to re-enter *jak'tahla*. Klingons also experience severe mood swings, unusual aggressive tendencies and the occasional *gorch* [pimple]. Worf also had the odd craving for the blood of a live *kolarr* beast. (ST: Insurrection]

"Accelerated hair growth is often experienced by Klingons during *jak'tahla*." (Worf, ST: Insurrection)
