I.e. historiography
CULTURAL NOTES:
The Second Dynasty ended when General K'trelan assassinated Emperor Reclaw. For the next 10 years the empire was ruled by a council elected by the people. Modern-day Klingon historians refer to this as the Dark Time. [DS9 "You Are Cordially Invited..."]
TREK NOTES:
WORF: But we do know that the Iconians were conquerors.
PICARD: But that knowledge was passed down by the descendants of those who attacked
this world. The victors invariably write the history to their own advantage. There
is an unfortunate tendency in many cultures to fear what they do not understand.

qun qon charghwI'pu''e'
History is written by the victors ["conquerors"]. (TKW}
This maxim is wrongly attributed to Winston Churchill according to his biographer Martin Gilbert, who believes it's classical. But on one occasion Churchill did quip, "History will be unkind to Neville Chamberlain. I know because I shall write it." Which he did in his best-selling "The Second World War" (6-volumes, published 1948-1953).
